Over 750 years of hospitality on the banks of the Těrlická Reservoir

Step inside a place where history blends naturally with modern comfort. Jaškovská krčma is not a museum, but a living space that has been welcoming visitors since as far back as 1268. Our complex, standing securely above the surface of the reservoir, offers much more than just authentic cuisine in historic halls with vaulted ceilings. Here you’ll find spacious viewing terraces right above the water, modern and historic hotel rooms, beachfront apartments for a summer getaway, and romantic nooks

Tried and tested by time and our guests

Every day, we write a new chapter in a story that has spanned over 750 years. We appreciate that you are writing it with us.

Today, our kitchen carries on this tradition using quality ingredients, tried-and-tested recipes and a respect for Czech, Moravian-Silesian and Polish cuisine. You can enjoy it in the authentic atmosphere of the historic halls or whilst sitting right by the waterside of the Těrlická Dam

Stories and History

750 years of uninterrupted hospitality have etched thousands of marvellous stories into our walls. Open the Jaškovská krčma chronicle and discover chapters about royal envoys, brave knights protecting the Amber Road, and the secrets guarded by the wise Monk in our cellars. Be inspired by the richness of our documented past and become part of its living legacy during your visit.

The Outlaws of Cierla

In the 14th century, a band of highwaymen used to gather in these parts, ambushing merchants’ carts on the country lane. The pub and a secret underground passage served as their hideout. One of them is said to have fallen in love with the innkeeper’s daughter and given up a life of crime. And who knows… Perhaps their descendants are serving you beer today??..

The Outlaws of Cierla

Viola of Cieszyn

Legend has it that the ghost of the ill-fated queen, wife of Wenceslas III, appears in the corridors of the world’s oldest pub every night before a great storm. She comes silently, barefoot, with eternal sorrow in her eyes. She was queen for a mere ten months, and wife to Petr of Rožmberk for less than a year. She died at the age of 27. Beautiful and ill-fated. The old innkeepers said they last saw her in 1847, the night before the great fire.

The Amber Treasure

Somewhere beneath the stone cellars of the pub lies a hidden chest full of amber, which merchants have been talking about since the Middle Ages. No one has found it yet. It is said that whoever finds it must offer the first glass of beer to the Spirit of the Pub.

The Amber Treasure

The name of the village: Těrlicko

Where did the village’s name actually come from? There is still debate about this today. Some claim it derives from the little river ‘Cierly’ (Stonávka). Others say it comes from the flax-processing tool ‘cierlice’ (known in Czech as a ‘trdlice’). A third group believes it comes from the stony bed of the stream, where the water ‘cerlila’ – rushing noisily amongst the stones. Which version do you favour? Here at the pub, we reckon they’re all correct!! The water murmured, people processed flax, and Těrlicko lived happily ever after….

The Three Patriots of the Pub

Every pub has its own patriots or guardians. We have three: Jaška, Trdla and Mnich. The first keeps an eye on safety, the second on the good atmosphere, and the third reminds us that life isn’t something to be taken for granted. They all also ensure the integrity and quality of the beer in the pub. You won’t find their statues right next to the pub. Every guest can choose their own favourite…

The Three Patriots of the Pub

Beer and the pub

Here’s the thing about beer. In ancient Egypt, it had to be drunk through a straw, as it was a thick liquid, full of sediment. Taverns had already adopted top-fermentation and flavouring with hops, not other herbs. But even in the Middle Ages, it was still a thick, cloudy liquid, full of yeast. It is only today, thanks to bottom fermentation, that we have beer that is crystal-clear and golden with an absolutely white, creamy head. And the fact that it is served on tap in the pub according to today’s standards is thanks to three patriots and a fourth, Tomáš from Prague (as in the case of Mr Dumas the Elder and his Three Musketaires).
